INTRODUCTION:
The use of acupuncture and other forms of alternative and complementary medicine have swept the nation. A recent (November, 1997) Consensus Development Conference on Acupuncture organized by the National Institutes of Health (NIH) to evaluate available scientific and medical data on the uses, risks and benefits of acupuncture procedures, concluded that acupuncture can be of value in a variety of clinical conditions, tantamount to an endorsement of acupuncture by the NIH. Data presented at the NIH included the following:

* One-third of all Americans are using some form of complementary or alternative medicine
* More than one million Americans currently use acupuncture
* More than $500 million per year is spent on acupuncture
* Most of the acupuncture treatments are combined with conventional Western medicine
* The number of acupuncture practitioners will double in 3 years
* Indications for the use of acupuncture in medical practice cover a wide range of clinical conditions

The American College of Acupuncture has been sponsoring individual training programs in medical acupuncture since 1975. We are pleased to make available a comprehensive, sequential, all-inclusive program of 300 credit hours. The program is designed to provide comprehensive training in medical acupuncture, both didactic and clinical, to physicians, dentists and veterinarians who wish to incorporate this very valuable modality into their practices.

Special individualized arrangements can also be made for those individuals who are in the process of completing their requirements for certification. Accordingly, new registrants will be enrolling for the complete sequence of 300 hours, while those either completing their requirements for certification or who are already certified or have completed their requirements may enroll for an individual segment of the program.

ABOUT THE AMERICAN COLLEGE OF ACUPUNCTURE
The American College of Acupuncture was incorporated in 1975 and is an organization intended for members who are engaged in research and teaching in the field of acupuncture. The College is chartered by the Board of Regents of the New York State Education Department to present educational programs in medical acupuncture and is the earliest organization chartered to provide such training in the United States. Members of the College direct their efforts towards the study of the physiological and clinical responses to acupuncture and its effect upon the human body, as well as towards basic research. Membership is by invitation only.

Additionally, as a result of our extensive affiliations throughout the Far East and Europe, arrangements are made on an ongoing basis for participant trips to affiliate facilities in China, Taiwan, Korea, Europe and elsewhere for comprehensive hands-on clinical training.
